A representative of both a popular denomination and popular bank that served one of the most idyllic locations in the United States. This note was issued by the Bishop First National Bank of Honolulu (Charter# 5550) which holds the rare distinction of being one of a tiny handful of territorial banks to issue high denomination Nationals. First organized in 1900 as the First National Bank of Hawaii at Honolulu, the bank quickly became the largest territorial issuer in the United States with a circulation of $250,000 in 1912, $750,000 in 1929, and $3,150,000 in 1930. Despite this distinction notes from here are extraordinarily popular thanks to their territorial status and exotic location. This specimen represents a note from one of the 2,294 $100-$100-$100-$100-$100-$100 sheets that were issued before 1933 when Type 2 notes were pressed into circulation and offers the collector something they would otherwise often be unable to afford. This evenly circulated specimen is nothing short of attractive with excellent qualities for the grade assigned by PMG and will prove to be an opportunity for the discerning collector who has long sought a territorial piece for their own holdings.
